Artist Statement

Graffiti inspires me to make artwork. Since I was a kid, I have liked hip hop music and culture. A lot of my work is based on this culture and I am most inspired by graffiti I have seen on the side of the road. I want my work to be reminiscent of the spray can marks and years of layering done by many different people.
Sometimes, I layer my artwork with different materials, similar to graffiti. A piece will develop as I go, sometimes I have ideas in my head and they become clearer as I put them down on paper. My art is made of different materials; I want to be outside of the box. I use many different types of mediums, including paints and drawing materials, but I also use found objects, such as bottle caps and wire, which are unconventional. I like mixing materials and experimenting. I tend to start with one material and then use others based on how the piece is developing.
I make art to express my feelings; it gives me the freedom to go outside the lines. When I start a piece, I can go anywhere. I paint with the freedom to change, it’s like a play, I am the producer and the director. My artwork shows people a part of me. Making art gets my aggression out and when I see my finished work, I feel happy and proud.
